Antony Price, Celebrated for Creating Looks for Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.

Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in crafting sculptural silhouettes made him a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
