Iran Reports Attack on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted debris fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
