Micky van de Ven Brace Halts Everton's Run at New Home Ground

The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run on the road in the top division and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores a short while after the defender's first goal, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to ensure Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the screen and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton remain 14th and are half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

After a drab weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere two shots on target, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball back across the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defensive duties, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters headed to the exits after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two established centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, despite having space and time to reposition for a simpler shot that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, as well, failed to make an impact after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly whipped threatening balls into the Spurs penalty area.
