Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

His counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an better service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the final five points to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

He rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
