People have gathered around the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations advanced in the neighboring country over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
The assault resulted in more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most fatal day for Jewish people since the World War II.
Israel responded by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are regarded as accurate by the United Nations and other international bodies.
"The aggressive enemies have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the leader stated on that day.
He also vowed to "achieve all the aims of the war: the release of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will never again present a risk to Israel".
The national leadership delayed formal commemorations until 16 October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still took place across the country on that day.
A memorial ceremony for the families of Israelis who died in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was broadcast across Israeli broadcast stations.
Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected around the country.
Meanwhile, both sides' negotiating teams convened in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the proposal.
A high-ranking delegate familiar with the negotiations said that an evening round of indirect talks began at 19:00 Cairo time.
The source said the morning session concluded without tangible results, due to differences over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not resume fighting after the initial stage of the agreement.
He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have not yet produce any real breakthrough," but noted that facilitators are working hard to reduce the differences between the two sides.
In Tel Aviv's public square previously, young Hagar - whose sibling lived through the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were killed and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - shared: "Nowhere appears as home anymore and until each abducted person are released no one will be secure."
"After we see all home returned, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.
Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people congregated to express their support for the relatives of the abducted. Israel states nearly fifty stay in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be living.
Activist a participant explained: "We must do whatever arrangement necessary for the hostages to come back home. But we really want promises that we will be protected."
Surveys now frequently demonstrate that about the majority of Israelis prefer the conflict to end in as payment for the liberation of the captives.
At the area of the music event, mourners came together to remember the victims.
From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and shelling could be noticed just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people said the intense Israeli shelling persisted.
In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and locality areas and in the eastern neighbourhood of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.
"Once the night arrives, the anxiety arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing previously, shared.
"My family are afraid of the attacks. All the night we are sleeping together, holding each other, especially my smallest child who places his face on me throughout the night."
"Continuously we look at the reports to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."
Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had taken in the corpses of half dozen people by the midday, including a trio killed in an Israeli strike in the south part district.
A different healthcare center in the southern city of that area reported another two dead people had been brought there. One of them was lost his life by Israeli troops while looking for help to the south region, health workers reported.
