Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Mourners assembled over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in the capital.
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators desired. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, stated to the media. “She was caring, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and halt issuing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to speak to the family.
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
