The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
