Unbowed Celtic's manager shows no fear of the sack but Celtic fans display fury after derby defeat.

The Celtic boss declared he did not fear losing his job, claiming, “We are very near to things turning around,” even after edging perilously close to the chopping block with a convincing loss to Rangers.

A Second-Half Meltdown Sees Derby Loss

The home side were in front their oldest rivals at the interval but a disastrous second period allowed Danny Röhl’s team to pull level on points with the reigning league title holders. Nancy, who was hired from the MLS, has now presided over six losses in eight fixtures.

“The board and I are united with the board,” said Nancy.

Pressed on whether he was concerned, he replied: “That’s not my focus. My focus is on finding ways to get the team to be good on details.

Fan Fury Outside Parkhead

The fans made their feelings clear – towards the hierarchy – in their hundreds outside the stadium. Club directors are thought to be considering to bring back the interim manager, who enjoyed a successful temporary stint previously, should a change be made.

“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the reality for the moment. But when I say that’s how it is, it doesn’t mean that I am pessimistic. No. My point is we are really close, imminently close to change the narrative.”

Nancy’s Persistent Belief

Nancy highlights the fact his team can perform strongly for a half at a time. Indeed, but for missed chances they could have been greater than 1-0 up. “There were positives other than the fact that we missed our chances,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I have also to be objective.

“The level we had at stages was of top quality. That happened. I could not talk like that if it was different. But that’s why, in terms of results, I said we've seen this before. Which is why I feel a change is coming to getting it right. But for the moment: details, details, details.”

“I saw many, many good things that we did, once more. The issue now comes down to consistency. My outlook would be different the same. That’s why I am a big believer the team can to get back on track.”

Röhl’s Cautious Outlook

Danny Röhl was cautious about a serious challenge even after what felt like a landmark win. “Step by step, and we can really build up something here,” he said. “The confidence in the team is immense.”
